Fantasia (1940): Unforgettable images are brought to life by some of the world's best music -- the comedy of Mickey Mouse as a troublemaking sorcerer's apprentice, the beauty of winged fairies and cascading snowflakes, even plump hippos performing ballet in tutus! (IMDb: 7.9, i♥movies: 7.5).
Fantasia 2000 (1999): Disney animators and filmmakers have again expanded the boundaries of imagination with Fantasia 2000. Fulfilling Walt Disney's original vision of uniquely fusing sight and sound in a full-length motion picture, this film begins where its predecessor, Fantasia left off, with seven completely new segments and the return of the popular "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." (IMDb: 7.3, i♥movies: 7.1)

I also got several DVDs from cartoons I loved when I was a kid, from a brazilian HQ: Turma da Mônica! :)
Yesterday I watched the 5th Season finale of Dexter. I loved it!
(CAREFUL! Contain spoilers!)
I thought this season took a while to really start, but once it did, I really liked it, his relationship with Lumen, and the way it developed was great! for me it was kind of obvious she wouldn't stay, they were so great together that if she did his life was going to be so perfect I don't think the series could go on as exciting as it has... What they can explore now and that can get really interesting is his relationship with his sister, since she kind of "approved" what he did and saved him, even though she didn't know it was him all along...
I'm already curious for what is to come on the next season!
Today I got the DVD from Shutter Island in a sale, it's a very good movie (exclusive post). The interesting part is I have just started to read the book by Lehane yesterday! And I am sure that at the moment I'm done with the book I'm going to want to watch the movie again! Anyway, it's a great movie, so it's a great acquisition!
I love Dexter and Michael C. Hall... Yesterday he was on Late Night with Jimmy Falcon where Jimmy asked Michael what Dexter's favourite christmas song was and asked him to perform it live! Of course he improvised and changed some of the lyrics, it was so funny! BTW, he sings really well!
Amazing! I really liked the movie, it's been a while since I trully deeply liked one of Harry Potter's adaptations, I usually like the movies, but there is always a scene they omited that I keep asking myself why they did it... However, people who haven't read the books will probably think this movie is slower than the rest, and obviously doesn't have an "end"... Just keep in mind that the last Harry Potter book was divided into two movies, this one being the first part, so it will be more detailed, which will be a delight for the book readers, and it's end will be on the second part... Anyway it's a must see!
For the people who don’t know what the story is about, you’re probably from another planet, but anyway, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the 7th and final book from the Harry Potter saga written by J.K. Rowling. Voldemort's power is growing stronger; he now has control over the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione decide to finish Dumbledore's work and find and destroy the rest of the Horcruxes to defeat the Dark Lord. But little hope remains for them, as they race against time and evil, they uncover the existence of three most powerful objects in the wizarding world: the Deathly Hallows.
A Tarantino movie where four years after taking a bullet in the head at her own wedding, the bride (Thurman) emerges from a coma and decides it's time for payback ... with a vengeance! Having been gunned down by her former boss (David Carradine) and his deadly squad of international assassins, it's a kill-or-be-killed fight she didn't start but is determined to finish! (i♥movies)
Having already crossed two names from her Death List, The Bride is back with a vengeance and taking aim at Budd and Elle Driver, the only survivors from the squad of assassins who betrayed her four years earlier. It's all leading up to the ultimate confrontation with Bill, The Bride's former master and the man who ordered her execution. (i♥movies)
Detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England. (IMDb)
In the world of violent, high-speed racing, brothers Rex and Speed Racer become rivals as powerful racer Mondragan manipulates their careers in order to kill them both during the world championships, but the brothers learn its all just an act of vengeance against Pops Racer, who caused the death of Mondragan's father in a race long ago. (i♥movies)
Yesterday we watched Scott Pilgrim vs The World. It was great! It is based on a series of comics by a canadian author, which I have already talked about here.
Scott Pilgrim is 23 years old, living in the big city with his gay roommate, just trying to get by in this crazy world. He's in a band. He's lazy. He likes video games. Scott Pilgrim likes the new girl in town, Ramona Flowers, but to win her heart, he has to defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends. Seven! Evil! Ex! Boyfriends! Lucas has muscles! Todd plays bass with his psychic powers! The Twins are twins! Matthew Patel is an Indian guy! AND MORE! (official site description)
So, what can I say about the movie itself? It's funny, it's really well adapted, and the cartoon-game effects are awesome! I really loved it, I think everybody should check it out eventhough some may not like the style...
It is getting confusing to write weekly summaries every week, since the TV-series are no longer having their episodes released every week and I'm doing a lot of other stuff at the moment and not being able to see that many movies or advancing in the series I was at the beginning, so I'm dropping "Weekly Summary" at least for now... ;)
Supernatural (You Can't Handle the Truth) Cas! *_* And is Sam human or not after all? >.<
Dexter(Everything is Illumenated) Dexter-Lumen gang! \o/ Glee (The Glee Rocky Show) Halloween special episode! Funny!! WTF was that scene with Emma and Will? OMG! LOL
The new series also had their second episode released:
The Event (Loyalty) where the hell is this going? *getting more and more curious*
Mike & Molly (Mike's Apartment) I like the way things are going...
And I'm going on with Rome (still in the beginning of season 1) Desperate Housewives (somewhere in season 3), Grey's Anatomy (in the middle of season 6) and United States of Tara (ended season 1 and started season 2) even though I'm still pretty far back...
I got back to watching Simpsons (still at the end of season 7, though).
As for movies, I watched Elite Squad 2 ("Tropa de Elite 2" in portuguese): exclusive post!
Yesterday I could finally watch Tropa de Elite 2 (Elite Squad 2), a brazilian movie that just came out.
One comment: very good. That's it, I'm done, there's nothing else to say...
I mentioned Elite Squad (the first) in this older post. Now Elite Squad 2 shows more about the corruption that allows organized crime to go on. It is again very sad to watch all that, but again it's like a huge wake-up call to people to see that everything is not as easy as they think it is... It is worth watching really, but just keep in mind that it is still a movie, and it is not like we have war on the streets every day and definitely not in every part of Brazil... But it is really a great movie!
A film that explores the dark and miserable townBasinCity and tells the story of three different people, all caught up in the violent corruption of the city. (IMDb)
Feeling that something is lacking in their lives, the family of suburbanite Charles Grodin adopts a stray St. Bernard puppy. The cute lite beast grows up to be the less-than-cute Beethoven, a sloppy, slobbery, oversized and extremely destructive animal. Beethoven also brings with him a lot of hidden baggage in the form of evil veterinarian Dean Jones, who'll stop at nothing to steal Beethoven. (i♥movies)
Furious that her late father only willed her his gloomy-looking mansion rather than his millions, Carrigan Crittenden hires an afterlife therapist, Dr. James Harvey to check out the place, Harvey shows up with his daughter, Kat, as they must spend some time in the mansion, while there, Kat discovers mean ghosts are around her, except one friendly ghost, Casper, who bonds with her. Lewis is a brilliant inventor who meets mysterious stranger named Wilbur Robinson, whisking Lewis away in a time machine and together they team up to track down Bowler Hat Guy in a showdown that ends with an unexpected twist of fate. (IMDb)
Supernatural (Live Free or Twihard) Dean as vampire!!! Niiice! LOL! And OMG WTF is wrong with Sam? O_o
Dexter(First Blood) Poor tormented Dexter... I'm enjoying this dilemma with Lumen :)
The new series also had their second episode released:
The Event (Casualties of War) Sean has Leila! Nice! And are those people gonna be time bombs now?
Mike & Molly (Carls is Jealous) nice funny episode... Carl is definatelly a girl XD
I watched the first episode of The Walking Dead (exclusive post).
And I'm going on with Rome (still in the beginning of season 1) Desperate Housewives (in the beginning of season 3), Grey's Anatomy (in the middle of season 6) and United States of Tara (somewhere of season 1) even though I'm still pretty far back...
I got back to watching Simpsons (still at the end of season 7, though).
As for movies, I watched The Sleeping Beauty, National Treasure: Book of Secrets and Beauty and the Beast.
Well, I started to watch again that many DVDs I got for children's day... The Sleeping Beauty was really nice to watch again, I realised that I didn't remember it very well, only the main story. The Beauty and the Beast was my favourite, and I said on the other post that I know all songs by heart, well, that is not quite true because I realised that I know the lines by heart as well!!
National Treasure 2 was OK, pretty much like the first one, fun and dymanic, but that's it.
There is a new series coming up, it is called The Walking Dead, is a series about a police officer that leads a group of survivors in a world overrun by zombies. It based on the comic book series of the same name created by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore. It will premiere on the AMC network on October 31, 2010 with a 90-minute premiere episode. However, some websites already have this first episode called Days Gone Bye available for download and I watched it yesterday.
We can see that the series is really well made and had a very good start. I think it has a promissing plot, everybody love zombie movies, why was there never a zombie series before? I hope to see more of it already!
Fringe (Do Shapeshifters Dream of Electric Sheep): that was a close one for alternative Olivia! I liked the episode, but I am glad this means that next episode will be with our Olivia in the alternative universe!
The Big Bang Theory (The Hot Troll Deviation): finally I had the question that has been bugging me forever answered! I always wondered why they never showed Wollowitz and Bernadette breaking up and the series went on and all...
Supernatural (Weekend at Bobby's): A Bobby-centred episode! It was a nice change!
Glee (Duets) was nice... I really loved Quinn and Sam's song!
Dexter(Beauty and the Beast): was very good! His relationship with the girl surprised me and I felt sad for him because of the nanny...
The new series also had their second episode released:
The Event (A Matter of Life and Death) can still surprise you... I like the way it keeps making turns!
Mike & Molly (Mike's Not Ready) was funny. I think I really will watch the show!
And I'm going on with Rome (still in the beginning of season 1) Desperate Housewives (still in the beginning of season 3), Grey's Anatomy (still in the beginning of season 6) and United States of Tara (still in the beginning of season 1) even though I'm still pretty far back...
As for movies, I watched Eat, Pray, Love at the movies (exclusive post), Elite Squad("Tropa de Elite" in portuguese), Land Before Time and Nigthmare on Elm Street("A Hora do Pesadelo" in Portuguese).
Elite Squad is a brasilian movie showing the sad story of the brasilian squad specialized in dealing with drug dealers and criminals in Rio de Janeiro. It's a very good movie, but it also really aggressive and depressing.
Land Before Time was really good to watch again! This was one of the movies I watched the most when }I was a kid.
Nightmare on Elm Street is a remake of the original Freddy Krueger movie from 1984. As the originial is one of my favorite horror movies, I just had to watch this remake. I liked it, but I think I still like the first one better.
Yesterday I went to see Eat, Pray, Love with a couple of friends. It based on a best-seller book by Elizabeth Gilbert. In this book she tells her own story about when she realized how unhappy her marriage really was, and that her life needs to go in a different direction. After a painful divorce, she takes off on a round-the-world journey to "find herself". For that she goes to Rome to learn italian and eat, for India to find God and pray and to Bali to find balance and eventually, love.
I liked the movie, pretty much what I thought of the book actually, not that good, not that bad. Thank God though they shortened the "Pray" part a bit, and they changed a little the story, mainly about her stay in Bali and her relationship to Felipe. And come on, does that guy really thinks he speaks portuguese? He even may speak, but definitely not like a brasilian would have...
I still think it is worth watching, mainly because it is been so discussed...
*BTW, today also arrived my 101 Dalmatians (1961 - IMDb: 7.2) and The Sleeping Beauty (1959 - IMDb: 7.4), which I could finally find for sale in another website... But all the others that, as mentioned here, were impossible to find, keep on being impossible :(
Yesterday I watched Death Proof by Quentin Tarantino. It was released in 2007 along with Planet Terror by Robert Rodriguez under the name Grindhouse (please, refer to this post to better understand about Grindhouse and about what I'm going to say).
Death Proof tells the story of two separate sets of voluptuous women are stalked at different times by a scarred stuntman who uses his "death proof" cars to execute his murderous plans. As Planet Terror, Death Proof was also a tribute to classic types of horror movies, only this time it was to exploitation, muscle cars and slasher film genres.
The story is about a I loved the movie! In my opinion it was superior than Planet Terror in every way, the plot, the division of the story,... Tarantino is really a genius! I still think it is worth it to watch Planet Terror because we see links between the movies, there are some characters that are the same (as the nurse with her colored syringes), sometimes they are in the same place (like the hospital) and they are filmed in the same style, with the same opening, etc. But do watch Death Proof (but remember: it's Tarantino, you have to like his style to enjoy it!)
Fringe (The Plateau) was again really good, now we are back to the alternative universe! I am amazed about their creativity! This new season is great! Loved the episode! Loved the ending!!!
The Big Bang Theory (The Zazzy Substitution) Sheldon is always the one who makes me laugh harder! He with all those cats! And they definitely are Shamy!
Supernatural (The Third Man) one word, or better, one name: Castiel! Yeeeeey!! I love himmmmm!! I'm so glad he is back! That was worth the whole episode! Besides that, the story is starting to get interesting now!
Glee (Grilled Cheesus) facepalm for that Grilled Cheesus! OMG, so, so... WTF?! XD but it was a really emotional episode, I loved Kurt's "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"!
The new series also had their second episode released:
The Event (Protect them From the Truth) the ending was amazing!!!
Mike & Molly (First Kiss) so funny and cute! I'm really enjoying it!
I also watched the first two episodes of House's new season: they were pretty good, I'm curious to see how badly this is gonna end ('cause c'mon... We know it's gonna...)
And Haven (episode 12)... The ending was like: OMFG!!
I started to watch the series Rome: watched the first two episodes, it's pretty interesting, let's see where it gets to...
And I'm going on with Desperate Housewives (still in the beginning of season 3), Grey's Anatomy (still in the beginning of season 6) and United States of Tara (still in the beginning of season 1) even though I'm still pretty far back...
As for movies, I watched Kung Fu Panda (funny), Grown Ups at the movies (exclusive post) and Death Proof (exclusive post coming soon!)
All in all, this week was very agitated because of the holidays so I didn't have much time to watch DVDs... :P
Today we celebrate Children's Day in Brazil that coincides with Our Lady of Aparecida's Day, the country's Patron Saint, which is a national holiday. This year my mom decided to give me (because I'm still a child, ok? At least to her...) some cartoon/animation DVDs from my childhood that I've been wanting to get, but haven't (I'm so happy! =D)... They are:
*I just LOVE this one! I know all songs by heart! XD
Belle, whose father Maurice is imprisoned by the Beast (really an enchanted Prince), offers herself instead and finds the prince inside the Beast. (IMDb)
Aladdin, a street urchin, accidentally meets Princess Jasmine, who is in the city undercover. They love each other, but she can only marry a prince. (IMDb)
A father-son underwater adventure featuring Nemo, a boy clownfish, stolen from his coral reef home. His timid father must then travel to Sydney and search SydneyHarbour to find Nemo. (IMDb)
Spirited Away (2001) "A Viagem de Chihiro" in Portuguese (2001)
*I love this one as well... So crazy, so different, so original, so interesting!
In the middle of her family's move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches, and monsters; where humans are changed into animals; and a bathhouse for these creatures. (IMDb)
Now I'm just a bit uncomfortable because I haven't been able to find several other Disney cartoons that were important to me, such as Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, Fantasia (neither the original nor Fantasia 2000), The Little Mermaid, Bambi, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, The Lion King, 101 Dalmatians (one of my favorites for sure!), etc. I don't know what I'm gonna do!!! :(
To take advantage of this post, just mentioning two other DVDs I got from my boyfriend: Chicago (2002 - IMDb: 7.2 / i♥movies: 6.8) and The Little Prince (1974 - IMDb: 6.0). Yesterday arrived the 6th and 7th Season of The Simpsons as well :) (I mentioned about my Simpsons seasons here)
