Season Premieres

OK, it took me a while to assemble this post, but here it is... After watching the Season premieres of Dexter, Fringe, Supernatural, Glee and The Big Bang Theory, I'm going to say my opinion... (Be careful! May contain spoilers for those who haven't watched the other seasons and the episode in question!)
* In parenthesis are the name of the episodes

The Big Bang Theory (The Robotic Manipulation)
Funny. Like always. That's all there is to say about The Big Bang Theory. I really love the show, it's really great, but as expected, nothing surprising from the plot. But oh boy, they can make me laugh! Loved it!

Supernatural (Exile on Main Street)
Difficult to say. Nothing major from this episode, but as we already knew, this series changed producers because its last thought it should have ended on season 5. After that, I was already thinking this was gonna be just a way of postponing the end of the series because it is very successful, because come on, they have already fought the Devil, now what? As for the episode, we already knew Sam would be back, but now he was not the only one to be "resuscitaded"? If they are going to bring back a bunch of people can they at least bring their father back?? (I love him!) Well, still have to see where this is going, for now nothing major, nothing mind blowing as Supernatural used to be.

Glee (Audition)
Not as exciting as I thought it would be... Pretty much an introduction to the new season, which means: we know where nationals is been held this year: New York, from this info we can be pretty sure that they are going (which is going to be nice! Glee @ NYC!). The new characters are great (Oh my, that little girl can sing!). Besides that, nothing new, nothing really interesting, any amazing song. I liked it, it was still fun! But again pretty much just an introduction... Let's see what else is coming!

Dexter (My Bad)
As the trailer had already suggested, this new season brings a darker, tormented Dexter, lost after Rita's death, for which he attributes all guilt to him for not murdering the Trinity killer sooner. Nothing really new happened in this episode, was more like an introduction showing Dexter's state of mind (OMG the way he just kills that guy in the bathroom) and Quinn's suspition (a new Doakes?). I really enjoyed the episode, I liked to know how was Dexter and Rita's first date.

Fringe (Olivia)
The best season premiere of all five. Eventhough I wouldn't say it's my favorite series from the above, I think it was the most mind blowing season premiere. After last season's finale, which was already so good that made  me think: OMG, Olivia is so much in trouble.... But now came this episode, in which we see that they are completely messing up with her head, so that she thinks she is the other Olivia... Brilliant! Great idea! Waiting to see how this continues...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: New Trailer!!!

It's coming!

Oh my God... Getting more and more anxious for the releasing of this movie... I got goosebumps everytime I watch these trailers. The book is so freaking good that if this movie is half as good as book, it's gonna be GREAT!

So, the trailer that was released a couple of months ago showing the division of the book into two movies and showing only several scenes (which had already made us go crazy) was this:

But now, they've released the theatrical trailer of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part I:

OK... I think I'm gonna do a Harry Potter marathon and watch all the movies again... If I hadn't like SO many things to read right now, I would definitely read the series all over again, for as far as the movies are good, the books are so much better!!! Let's be serious, I can't imagine how people that haven't read the books can enjoy the movies at all, how can they even understand the story?

New DVDs

Yesterday arrived:

Bolt (2008)

I haven't watched this one yet. Bolt is the canine star of a fictional sci-fi/action show that believes his powers are real embarks on a cross country trek to save his co-star from a threat he believes is just as real.
IMDb: 7.4

which I got together with Desperate Housewives Season 3, which as I have already mentioned here and here, I only had until season 2, but since I am almost over with season 2 and I needed to go on, I had to get season 3!!
A couple of days ago arrived Simpsons Season 9 and 10 (going backwards, trying to get them all, already have season 8 and got season 11 and 11 the other day)

The Event

New series!!! Yet again this one may pass unnoticed because of all the series re-starting this month... From the same producer as 24 and already being nominated as the new "Lost" for being NBC's new greatest bet, The Event presents a man that after going looking for his missing girlfriend, stumbles upon a government conspiracy that is bigger than the president himself. The description as well as the first episode don't aid us on understanding more about the series, probably to add to this conspiracy-mystery enviromment... After the pilot I got more curious and I am definitely going to watch more episodes... Let's see, but I think this series can really surprise us!
Check out the trailer!

DVD sale

I love DVD sales!!!
This time I got:

The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
Based on the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with the same songs, this movie tells the story of a disfigured musical genius, that hidden away in the Paris Opera House, terrorizes the opera company for the unwitting benefit of a young protégée whom he trains and loves. Even if it is not very acclaimed as a movie, for those who watched the musical and/or love the songs is a very good adaptation.
IMDb: 7.2
i♥movies: 6.6

Stay (2005): "A Passagem" in Portuguese
A rather unknown movie, where a suicidal college student and his doctor enter a twisted world of supernatural horror. Henry Lethem (Ryan Gosling) plans to kill himself in three days, unless psychologist Sam Foster (Ewan McGregor) can stop him. Henry's been hearing disturbing voices and experiencing horrifying visions, but where does imagination end and reality begin? Very good plot with a surprising ending.
IMDb: 6.8
i♥movies: 6.0

X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
I already have the other two, this one was missing...  When a cure is found to treat mutations, lines are drawn amongst the X-Men, led by Professor Charles Xavier, and the Brotherhood, a band of powerful mutants organized under Xavier's former ally, Magneto. (IMDb)
IMDb: 6.9
i♥movies: 6.3

Madagascar (2005)
Spoiled by their upbringing with no idea what wild life is really like, four animals from New York Central Zoo escape, unwittingly assisted by four absconding penguins, and find themselves in Madagascar, among a bunch of merry lemurs.
IMDb: 6.6
i♥movies: 6.5

Kung Fu Panda features Jack Black as Po the Panda, a lowly waiter in a noodle restaurant, who is a kung fu fanatic but whose shape doesn't exactly lend itself to kung fu fighting. In fact, Po's defining characteristic appears to be that he is the laziest of all the animals in ancient China. That's a problem because powerful enemies are at the gates, and all hopes have been pinned on a prophesy... (i♥movies)
IMDb: 7.7

Toy Story 2 (1999)
When Woody is stolen by a toy collector, Buzz and his friends vow to rescue him, but Woody finds the idea of immortality in a museum tempting. (IMDb)
IMDb: 8.0
i♥movies: 7.1

*Now I still have to get Toy Story 1... XD

PS: Yes, I am on a cartoon/animation phase :P

New Chuck Lorre's series: Mike & Molly

Together with this storm of TV-series getting back on air in September, some new series are having their premiere also in September, some that we don't even get to know, because we are busy trying to keep up with Dexter, Fringe, Supernatural, House, etc.
One of these new series is called Mike & Molly, from Chuck Lorre, the same producer of both Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory, and just like both of them, lasts about 20 minutes and is based in comic facts. Mike ("My Name is Earl"), an obese police cop, meets Molly ("Gilmore Girls"), an obese teacher, in an OA (Obese Anonymous) meeting and start dating. The series tells the story of their new relationship problems and also the prejudice and problems they come accross because of their size...
A different and original series, if you enjoy the other Chuck Lorre's productions, it is worth checking out. I found the first episode rather interesting, and I will be watching a few more to see were this is trully going before I make up my mind, after all this was just the pilot... They were only introducing the characters... ;)
Check out the trailer!:

September, the month of the TV series

For us series addicted people, September is a very promising month... I can't believe the number of new seasons of well-known series that are starting this week and the next...
I will be following: Glee's 2nd season, Dexter's 5th season, Fringe's 3rd season, House's 7th season, The Big Bang Theory's 4th season and Supernatural's 6th season.
I still need to finish Grey's Anatomy 5th season, so that I can watch the 6th season... I am very curious for what people have been saying about the end of the 5th season and by for the 6th season's poster... Very intriguing...
Desperate Housewives is also starting a new season, but as I said not so long ago, I just started watching this series, and for this reason, I am still on season 2, and I don't think I'm gonna catch up that quickly with all these series coming up!!
Besides these, there are still other famous series returning, such as CSI, The Mentalist, Criminal Minds, Two and a Half Man, NCIS and Bones, among others... It is worth checking out, lots of stuff happening in the next couple of weeks!

Dexter: Early Cuts

Looking for information about the 5th season of Dexter (don't know the series? Read about it further down this post!) that is about to have its premiere (Sep. 27). I found out that Showtime has published what they are calling as an "Animated Websiode Series", which as I see it would be something like a series with animated episodes displayed on the internet, about Dexter's early cuts. I am sure that everybody who, just like me, love this series is gonna love these cartoons! There are three main episodes, telling the story of three victims: Gene Marshall (1993), Alex Timmons (2003) and Cindy Landon (2004). Each episode is divided into four chapters of 2 minutes each... I strongelly suggest everyone checking them out! (Link!) Check the trailer down here (if you can not see it, try going through this link and clicking "watch the trailer")

Taking advantage of the post, here is the fith season trailer for those who haven't seen it yet: (Carefull! Spoilers for those who haven't seen the fourth season!)

Now, for those who have never heard of Dexter (IMDb: 9.2, i♥movies: 8.8)... It is based on a very original idea first published by Jeff Lindsay in a series of books, telling the story of a Miami police forensic expert that actually is a serial killer himself who kills criminals he believed have escaped justice... Really original isn't it? Dexter's plot is very well contructed and developped, and you end up agreeing with this loveable serial killer! Hard to imagine, isn't it? Michael C. Hall is also increadible in the role of Dexter (I am SO glad he recovered from his cancer!) I do recommend it to anybody who is looking for a different, involving, interesting new series to watch. I still have not heard of a single person who has tried to watch Dexter and didn't like it! Here is the series promo:

True Blood (3rd Season Finale)

First of all, for those who never heard of True Blood (IMDb: 8.7, i♥movies: 7.9), it is a very well-known and well-ranked series based on the a book series called the Sookie Stackhouse novels (1st: Dead Until Dark, 2nd: Living Dead in Dallas, 3rd: Club Dead, etc.) by Charlaine Harris. It tells the story of the bairmaid Sookie Stackhouse who can read people's minds. In her world vampires exist and they "came out of the coffin' on national television two years earlier when japanese scientists developped a synthetic blood called Tru Blood, which allowed vampires to survive without feeding on human beings. Of course the situation is not that simple nor peacefull. It is a very good and original story, the idea always seemed very interesting to me... Come on, synthetic blood for vampires? LOL. I have already read some books of the series (until the 5th by now) and I liked the series, eventhough I was shocked at the first episode by how explicit it can get, but then I just got used to it and enjoyed... (Watch the series promo underneath).
Third season poster
Yesterday I watched the last epidose of True Blood's third season... So I will comment now on my thoughts of this season (be carefull, it may contain spoilers!). I think I can say this was the season I liked less of the three... Maybe because I was expecting something a bit different, due to the books. I think the story is getting further from the original. Not that it is a bad thing, Dexter for instance completly diverged from the books at the end of season 1, it has nothing to do with the books anymore but I love both stories... However, in True Blood's case, it is not that it is bad, it is just that I don't have a clear picture yet of where it is going... The first season was pretty true to the first book, the second a bit different, eventhough the background story was the same, but this third one is rather different, again some elements are the same, it even has some things we will only learn later in the books. I am very confident though that I have this opinion because I have read some of the books, I truely think that for people who either didn't read the books or read them all, wouldn't feel like this. I still strongly recommend this series for everyone eventhough I know some won't like it!
*Anxiously waiting for season 4!*

PS: Just found out that Jessica (yes, Jessica, not the actress) has a videoblog... It's so funny! Check it out!

Knowing (2009) "O Presságio", in Portuguese

IMDb: 7.5

La Môme (2007) "La vie en Rose", in English; "Piaf: um hino ao amor", in Portuguese

This movie tells the story of the singer Édith Piaf. It is wonderfull, so beautiful, I like it very much. I just love the scene where she sings La Maseillaise (France's national anthem) as a kid. (youtube link to the scene)

IMDb: 7.6

Inglorious Basterds and The Hangover

Yesterday I've been to a couple of friends home to watch some movies, actually to watch Inglorious Basterds that all of us, shamefully, hadn't watched yet... Directed by Quentin Tarantino (I really like his movies), Inglorious Basterds tells the tale of a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as "The Basterds" that are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. It is really good!
IMDb: 8.4
i♥movies: 8.1

After that they still wanted to watch something, and they had just bought The Hangover ("Se Beber Não Case", in Portuguese) along with Inglorious Basterds and they hadn't watched it also, so... I don't know if it is possible, but I think that yesterday I laughed at some parts even more than I did at the first time I watched it... There are scenes that are still funny, no matter what... It's a Las Vegas-set comedy centered around three groomsmen who lose their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, then must retrace their steps in order to find him.
IMDb: 7.9

Dead Like Me and Simpsons

Today arrived the 1st and 2nd season of Dead Like Me (I have watched just the pilot episode, it was a recommendation, but I got interested and it was really cheap... XD) and the 11th season of Simpsons (the 12th is on its way)... Unfortunatelly I don't own all Simpsons seasons... I already had the 8th, the 1st-7th and the 9th and 10th I have it recorded, but not the boxes... Shame, but I will be getting them little by little, but the 11th and 12th I didn't have either way, so... :)

This one everybody knows, so I won't describe it! XD
IMDb: 9.2
i♥movies: 8 (11th season) / 8.1 (12th season)

IMDb: 8.8
i♥movies: 7.7 (1st season) / 8.6 (2nd season)

Persons Unknown

Yesterday I watched what was supposed to be the end of the Persons Unknown series... Here is the trailer for this new show, as I said it was supposed to be a mini-series, but because of its success and its ending, I'm pretty sure there will be a continuation, even because if you go to the official site they've named the last episode that aired as "season finale" instead of "series finale" as it usually is when the series is over... Besides, they enumerate the episodes as 101, 102, etc. instead of 01, 02, etc.... So let's wait for their official annoucement and hope there's a new season coming up!

If you've never watched or heard about the series, here is a description and the trailer... It's very interesting and well developed (at least it has been so far!) :P

A group of seven strangers must come together to solve the puzzle of their lives. All of them have been taken from their everyday lives and have arrived in a deserted town with no recollection of how they got there. While being held hostage, the strangers are constantly watched by omnipresent "security" cameras with no idea who or what is behind them. Every attempt to leave is thwarted by unforeseen circumstances, which seem to derive from mysterious forces. At every turn, these strangers-turned-comrades are threatened physically, psychologically and emotionally. Their chance at survival is to rely on each other. But who can they trust in this vulnerable state - either behind those cameras or amongst themselves? Their decisions will have moral and ethical consequences, as alliances are forged and relationships brokered. (Official site)
