Eat, Pray, Love

Yesterday I went to see Eat, Pray, Love with a couple of friends. It based on a best-seller book by Elizabeth Gilbert. In this book she tells her own story about when she realized how unhappy her marriage really was, and that her life needs to go in a different direction. After a painful divorce, she takes off on a round-the-world journey to "find herself". For that she goes to Rome to learn italian and eat, for India to find God and pray and to Bali to find balance and eventually, love.

I liked the movie, pretty much what I thought of the book actually, not that good, not that bad. Thank God though they shortened the "Pray" part a bit, and they changed a little the story, mainly about her stay in Bali and her relationship to Felipe. And come on, does that guy really thinks he speaks portuguese? He even may speak, but definitely not like a brasilian would have...

I still think it is worth watching, mainly because it is been so discussed...

Inglorious Basterds and The Hangover

Yesterday I've been to a couple of friends home to watch some movies, actually to watch Inglorious Basterds that all of us, shamefully, hadn't watched yet... Directed by Quentin Tarantino (I really like his movies), Inglorious Basterds tells the tale of a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as "The Basterds" that are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. It is really good!

After that they still wanted to watch something, and they had just bought The Hangover ("Se Beber Não Case", in Portuguese) along with Inglorious Basterds and they hadn't watched it also, so... I don't know if it is possible, but I think that yesterday I laughed at some parts even more than I did at the first time I watched it... There are scenes that are still funny, no matter what... It's a Las Vegas-set comedy centered around three groomsmen who lose their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, then must retrace their steps in order to find him.

Dead Like Me and Simpsons

Today arrived the 1st and 2nd season of Dead Like Me (I have watched just the pilot episode, it was a recommendation, but I got interested and it was really cheap... XD) and the 11th season of Simpsons (the 12th is on its way)... Unfortunatelly I don't own all Simpsons seasons... I already had the 8th, the 1st-7th and the 9th and 10th I have it recorded, but not the boxes... Shame, but I will be getting them little by little, but the 11th and 12th I didn't have either way, so... :)

Desperate Housewives & Pretty Little Liars

Yesterday the boxes of the first two seasons of Desperate Houseviwes arrived at home... I know it is a very well-know series, but believe it or not I had never watched it or had the interest to watch it. Maybe because of its name, I had never even read of what it was about... 

A couple of months ago, I watched the promo for this new series called Pretty Little Liars, I got interested and watched the first episode, which I really liked... It wasn't until maybe the 3rd episode, that reading more about the series I got to know it was based in a book series by Sara Shepard and that it was being said to be a teen version of Desperate Housewives... Ok, maybe Desperate Housewives wasn't about what I was thinking of after all... I got the 1st episode and... Well, isn't it interesting? It really is an original idea! Pretty Little Liars goes on the same lines, eventhough the storyline is different (after all it is not a copy of DH...).

If you, like myself, never watched neither of them, give it a try... It is very different and catching! If you love DH, try PPL, I think you'll like it! Here are the plots and trailers for you to enjoy!!

The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas

Yesterday I watched the movie The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas, I still hadn't seen the movie eventhough I had already read the book by John Boyne.

It is a very good movie, I was impressed. I thought the adaptation was really well done, it is so true to the book, it is amazing. It's really difficult to see good adaptations these days, of course that in the book the point of view is only Bruno's, which is very difficult to put in a movie, how can you build a story that everyone is seeing through the looks of a child? It is obvious that it wouldn't be possible to be that equal to the book regarding this part, but inspite of that, the story was perfectly constructed, so congratulations to everyone responsible!!
Plot: Set during World War II, a story seen through the innocent eyes of Bruno, the eight-year-old son of the commandant at a concentration camp, whose forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence has startling and unexpected consequences.

Ghost (1990)

Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze are the passionate lovers whose romance is undone when the latter is murdered during a bungled hit arranged by a rival. The clever concept by screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin (director of My Life) extends outward into comedy (Swayze's character communicates through a sassy medium played by Whoopi Goldberg, who won an Oscar for this role), horror (the afterlife is populated by hell-bound demons and the like), and romantic complications (a handsome suitor, played by Tony Goldwyn, comes on to Moore while Swayze's spirit is still hanging around). Directed by Jerry Zucker, previously best known for codirecting Airplane! and similar broad comedies, Ghost is a careful balancing act of strong commercial elements, but at heart it is a timeless Hollywood tearjerker that easily gets under one's skin. The result is smarter and funnier than you might expect from the subject matter, and warmer and more touching than you might expect from the cocky attitude. Dark and moody, the film is a thrilling ride back to the turn of the 19th century. Johnny Depp stars as Ichabod Crane, a seemingly hapless constable from New York City who is sent to the small town of Sleepy Hollow to solve the mystery of the decapitations that are plaguing the town. Crane is a bumbling sort, with a tremendous faith in science over mysticism, and he comes up against town secrets, bewitching women, and a number of bodies missing heads. Christina Ricci, as beautiful as ever, is Katrina Van Tassel, the offbeat love interest who alternately charms and frightens Crane.
The film, while occasionally gory (as one should expect from a movie about a headless horseman), is not terribly frightening, although it is suspenseful. Both Depp and Ricci are convincing, and the art direction and production values give the village its harsh feel. Toward the end, once the secrets are revealed, the film does slow down; however, this stylistic horror film provides many tricks and even more treats. (Amazon)
