Yesterday I went to see Eat, Pray, Love with a couple of friends. It based on a best-seller book by Elizabeth Gilbert. In this book she tells her own story about when she realized how unhappy her marriage really was, and that her life needs to go in a different direction. After a painful divorce, she takes off on a round-the-world journey to "find herself". For that she goes to Rome to learn italian and eat, for India to find God and pray and to Bali to find balance and eventually, love.
I liked the movie, pretty much what I thought of the book actually, not that good, not that bad. Thank God though they shortened the "Pray" part a bit, and they changed a little the story, mainly about her stay in Bali and her relationship to Felipe. And come on, does that guy really thinks he speaks portuguese? He even may speak, but definitely not like a brasilian would have...
I still think it is worth watching, mainly because it is been so discussed...
*BTW, today also arrived my 101 Dalmatians (1961 - IMDb: 7.2) and The Sleeping Beauty (1959 - IMDb: 7.4), which I could finally find for sale in another website... But all the others that, as mentioned here, were impossible to find, keep on being impossible :(

Now I'm just a bit uncomfortable because I haven't been able to find several other Disney cartoons that were important to me, such as Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, Fantasia (neither the original nor Fantasia 2000), The Little Mermaid, Bambi, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, The Lion King, 101 Dalmatians (one of my favorites for sure!), etc. I don't know what I'm gonna do!!! :(

The Phantom of the Opera (2004) Based on the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with the same songs, this movie tells the story of a disfigured musical genius, that hidden away in the Paris Opera House, terrorizes the opera company for the unwitting benefit of a young protégée whom he trains and loves. Even if it is not very acclaimed as a movie, for those who watched the musical and/or love the songs is a very good adaptation. IMDb: 7.2 i♥movies: 6.6
Stay (2005): "A Passagem" in Portuguese A rather unknown movie, where a suicidal college student and his doctor enter a twisted world of supernatural horror. Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze are the passionate lovers whose romance is undone when the latter is murdered during a bungled hit arranged by a rival. Simmons (Spider-Man) and Allison Janney as Juno's father and stepmother. Director Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking) deftly keeps the movie from slipping into easy, shallow sarcasm or foundering in sentimentality. The result is smarter and funnier than you might expect from the subject matter, and warmer and more touching than you might expect from the cocky attitude. Page's performance is deceptively simple; she never asks the audience to love her, yet she effortlessly carries a movie in which she's in almost every scene. That's star power. (Amazon)

The films of Tim Burton shine through the muck like a jack-o-lantern on a foggy October night. After such successes as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands, it should come as no surprise that Sleepy Hollow is a dazzling film, a delicious reworking of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Dark and moody, the film is a thrilling ride back to the turn of the 19th century. Johnny Depp stars as Ichabod Crane, a seemingly hapless constable from New York City who is sent to the small town of Sleepy Hollow to solve the mystery of the decapitations that are plaguing the town. Crane is a bumbling sort, with a tremendous faith in science over mysticism, and he comes up against town secrets, bewitching women, and a number of bodies missing heads. Christina Ricci, as beautiful as ever, is Katrina Van Tassel, the offbeat love interest who alternately charms and frightens Crane. The film, while occasionally gory (as one should expect from a movie about a headless horseman), is not terribly frightening, although it is suspenseful. Both Depp and Ricci are convincing, and the art direction and production values give the village its harsh feel.
