Weekly summary #4

20.Oct.2010 - 26.Oct.2010

The fifth episode of the seasons are out! *No Glee nor Fringe this week :(
The Big Bang Theory (The Desperation Emanation) I love Shamy episodes! :P
Supernatural (Live Free or Twihard) Dean as vampire!!! Niiice! LOL! And OMG WTF is wrong with Sam? O_o
Dexter (First Blood) Poor tormented Dexter... I'm enjoying this dilemma with Lumen :)

The new series also had their second episode released:
The Event (Casualties of War) Sean has Leila! Nice! And are those people gonna be time bombs now?
Mike & Molly (Carls is Jealous) nice funny episode... Carl is definatelly a girl XD

I watched the first episode of The Walking Dead (exclusive post).

And I'm going on with Rome (still in the beginning of season 1) Desperate Housewives (in the beginning of season 3), Grey's Anatomy (in the middle of season 6) and United States of Tara (somewhere of season 1) even though I'm still pretty far back...
I got back to watching Simpsons (still at the end of season 7, though).

As for movies, I watched The Sleeping Beauty, National Treasure: Book of Secrets and Beauty and the Beast.
Well, I started to watch again that many DVDs I got for children's day... The Sleeping Beauty was really nice to watch again, I realised that I didn't remember it very well, only the main story. The Beauty and the Beast was my favourite, and I said on the other post that I know all songs by heart, well, that is not quite true because I realised that I know the lines by heart as well!!
National Treasure 2 was OK, pretty much like the first one, fun and dymanic, but that's it.

The Walking Dead

There is a new series coming up, it is called The Walking Dead, is a series about a police officer that leads a group of survivors in a world overrun by zombies. It based on the comic book series of the same name created by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore. It will premiere on the AMC network on October 31, 2010 with a 90-minute premiere episode. However, some websites already have this first episode called Days Gone Bye available for download and I watched it yesterday.
We can see that the series is really well made and had a very good start. I think it has a promissing plot, everybody love zombie movies, why was there never a zombie series before? I hope to see more of it already!

Weekly summary #3

13.Oct.2010 - 19.Oct.2010

The fourth episode of the seasons are out!
Fringe (Do Shapeshifters Dream of Electric Sheep): that was a close one for alternative Olivia! I liked the episode, but I am glad this means that next episode will be with our Olivia in the alternative universe!
The Big Bang Theory (The Hot Troll Deviation): finally I had the question that has been bugging me forever answered! I always wondered why they never showed Wollowitz and Bernadette breaking up and the series went on and all...
Supernatural (Weekend at Bobby's): A Bobby-centred episode! It was a nice change!
Glee (Duets) was nice... I really loved Quinn and Sam's song!
Dexter (Beauty and the Beast): was very good! His relationship with the girl surprised me and I felt sad for him because of the nanny...

The new series also had their second episode released:
The Event (A Matter of Life and Death) can still surprise you... I like the way it keeps making turns!
Mike & Molly (Mike's Not Ready) was funny. I think I really will watch the show!

And I'm going on with Rome (still in the beginning of season 1) Desperate Housewives (still in the beginning of season 3), Grey's Anatomy (still in the beginning of season 6) and United States of Tara (still in the beginning of season 1) even though I'm still pretty far back...

As for movies, I watched Eat, Pray, Love at the movies (exclusive post), Elite Squad ("Tropa de Elite" in portuguese), Land Before Time and Nigthmare on Elm Street ("A Hora do Pesadelo" in Portuguese).
Elite Squad is a brasilian movie showing the sad story of the brasilian squad specialized in dealing with drug dealers and criminals in Rio de Janeiro. It's a very good movie, but it also really aggressive and depressing.
Land Before Time was really good to watch again! This was one of the movies I watched the most when }I was a kid.
Nightmare on Elm Street is a remake of the original Freddy Krueger movie from 1984. As the originial is one of my favorite horror movies, I just had to watch this remake. I liked it, but I think I still like the first one better.

Eat, Pray, Love

Yesterday I went to see Eat, Pray, Love with a couple of friends. It based on a best-seller book by Elizabeth Gilbert. In this book she tells her own story about when she realized how unhappy her marriage really was, and that her life needs to go in a different direction. After a painful divorce, she takes off on a round-the-world journey to "find herself". For that she goes to Rome to learn italian and eat, for India to find God and pray and to Bali to find balance and eventually, love.
I liked the movie, pretty much what I thought of the book actually, not that good, not that bad. Thank God though they shortened the "Pray" part a bit, and they changed a little the story, mainly about her stay in Bali and her relationship to Felipe. And come on, does that guy really thinks he speaks portuguese? He even may speak, but definitely not like a brasilian would have...
I still think it is worth watching, mainly because it is been so discussed...
IMDb: 4.9

*BTW, today also arrived my 101 Dalmatians (1961 - IMDb: 7.2) and The Sleeping Beauty (1959 - IMDb: 7.4), which I could finally find for sale in another website... But all the others that, as mentioned here, were impossible to find, keep on being impossible :(

Death Proof

Yesterday I watched Death Proof by Quentin Tarantino. It was released in 2007 along with Planet Terror by Robert Rodriguez under the name Grindhouse (please, refer to this post to better understand about Grindhouse and about what I'm going to say).
Death Proof tells the story of two separate sets of voluptuous women are stalked at different times by a scarred stuntman who uses his "death proof" cars to execute his murderous plans. As Planet Terror, Death Proof was also a tribute to classic types of horror movies, only this time it was to exploitation, muscle cars and slasher film genres.
The story is about a I loved the movie! In my opinion it was superior than Planet Terror in every way, the plot, the division of the story,... Tarantino is really a genius! I still think it is worth it to watch Planet Terror because we see links between the movies, there are some characters that are the same (as the nurse with her colored syringes), sometimes they are in the same place (like the hospital) and they are filmed in the same style, with the same opening, etc. But do watch Death Proof (but remember: it's Tarantino, you have to like his style to enjoy it!)
IMDb: 7.2

The third episode of the seasons are out!
Fringe (The Plateau) was again really good, now we are back to the alternative universe! I am amazed about their creativity! This new season is great! Loved the episode! Loved the ending!!!
The Big Bang Theory (The Zazzy Substitution) Sheldon is always the one who makes me laugh harder! He with all those cats! And they definitely are Shamy!
Supernatural (The Third Man) one word, or better, one name: Castiel! Yeeeeey!! I love himmmmm!! I'm so glad he is back! That was worth the whole episode! Besides that, the story is starting to get interesting now!
Glee (Grilled Cheesus) facepalm for that Grilled Cheesus! OMG, so, so... WTF?! XD but it was a really emotional episode, I loved Kurt's "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"!

Mike & Molly (First Kiss) so funny and cute! I'm really enjoying it!

As for movies, I watched Kung Fu Panda (funny), Grown Ups at the movies (exclusive post) and Death Proof (exclusive post coming soon!)

All in all, this week was very agitated because of the holidays so I didn't have much time to watch DVDs... :P

Children's Day

Today we celebrate Children's Day in Brazil that coincides with Our Lady of Aparecida's Day, the country's Patron Saint, which is a national holiday. This year my mom decided to give me (because I'm still a child, ok? At least to her...) some cartoon/animation DVDs from my childhood that I've been wanting to get, but haven't (I'm so happy! =D)... Now I'm just a bit uncomfortable because I haven't been able to find several other Disney cartoons that were important to me, such as Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp, Fantasia (neither the original nor Fantasia 2000), The Little Mermaid, Bambi, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, The Lion King, 101 Dalmatians (one of my favorites for sure!), etc. I don't know what I'm gonna do!!! :(

To take advantage of this post, just mentioning two other DVDs I got from my boyfriend: Chicago (2002 - IMDb: 7.2 /  i♥movies: 6.8) and The Little Prince (1974 - IMDb: 6.0).
Yesterday arrived the 6th and 7th Season of The Simpsons as well :) (I mentioned about my Simpsons seasons here)

Grown Ups

Yesterday I went to the movies with the intention of watching Eat, Pray, Love but ended up watching Grown Ups ("Gente Grande" in Portuguese) with a couple of friends... It's not the type of film I usually enjoy... I mean, OK, it's funny, you can laugh sometimes but that's it, period. :)
Plot: After their high school basketball coach passes away, five good friends and former teammates reunite for a Fourth of July holiday weekend. (IMDb)
If you like comedies like this though...

IMDb: 5.8

Weekly summary #1

A different idea of bringing a resumé of what I've been watching that didn't deserve a special separated post... (29.Sep.2010 - 05.Oct.2010)

The second episode of the seasons that have just started are out.
Fringe was again really good, but I'm more curious about what's going on in the other universe, this episode was pretty much in the same style as the other seasons.
The Big Bang Theory was really funny! I loved robot Sheldon! Bazinga! LOL
Dexter was good, still curious about what this season has to offer though...
Supernatural was nice. Back to the Sam-Dean roadtrip... Dean taking care of the baby was funny. Back to the origins of Supernatural...
Glee was soooo funny! I know I said that the first episode was kind of ordinary, nothing special, but this one... It was based on Britney Spears, really well-known songs, and with funny details! "Is this real life?" LOL

The new series also had their second episode released:
The Event was also really good, starting to get more interested in this series...
Mike & Molly was funny, this was their first date, I think I am going to watch the series, it's not that awesome, but it's fun!

I may also have gone a bit further with on with Desperate Housewives (still in the beginning of season 3), Grey's Anatomy (still in the beginning of season 6) and United States of Tara (still in the beginning of season 1) even though I'm still pretty far back...

As for movies, I watched Bolt and I am Legend, which I hadn't seen and got the DVDs recently...
Bolt was cute, I didn't know exactly what to except from it, but I enjoyed, won't make it to my top 5 of my favorite cartoons, but was definitely fun!
I am Legend was really good! I remember now people telling me about it when it was released. I really enjoyed it and kept asking myself what the title was referring to, but at the end it was all very clear. I really liked it!
I also watched Tous les Matins du Monde (based on a book) and Planet Terror (exclusive post).

That's it for now... Let's see how this week goes...

Yet another DVD sale

IMDb: 5.8

And National Treasure: Book of Secrets 2

Planet Terror

Yesterday I watched Planet Terror, an american action horror movie written and directed by Robert Rodriguez. This movie was released theatrically in North America in 2007 as part of a double feature with Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof under the title Grindhouse, in order to replicate the experience of viewing exploitation films in a "grindhouse" theater. They were also filmed in "retro" style and even put fake trailers between the movies. In much of the rest of the world, including in Brazil, each feature was released separately, with Planet Terror and Death Proof screened in extended versions, and unfortunately here in Brazil Death Proof was only released this semester. (I haven't seen it yet, but intend to do it soon!)

Well, back to Planet Terror, the story is about an experimental bio-weapon beeing released, turning thousands into zombie-like creatures, after that it's up to a rag-tag group of survivors to stop the infected and those behind its release. It was a tribute to the zombie film genre, but it was a bit trashy for my taste... I know Robert Rodriguez' style as well as I know Quentin Tarantino's, but even so. Well, it was interesting at least! But you need to watch it with Tarantino's and Rodriguez' art in mind :)
IMDb: 7.6
